Get to know Jesus
A good place to start would be in getting to know Jesus.
You can read about him in the bible. The gospels of Mathew, Mark, Luke and John all tell us that Jesus is the Son of God and He died to save us from all our sins. After Jesus rose from the dead God sent His Holy Spirit to those who believe in Jesus so that they could know the strength of His love living inside them forever. This is how our new life begins! Its not about trying harder or earning approval! Its simply by believing in Jesus. You can download a Bible app on your phone (YouVersion Bible App) or buy a Bible online or in a Christian bookshop.
Talk to God in prayer
This is like talking to a good friend. You can pour out your heart to Him. You can be confused, angry, disappointed, full of joy or full of grief – whatever you feel. God wants you to be real with Him. His heart’s desire is to connect with you. Jesus taught his Disciples to pray and He encouraged them to pray often. God hears our prayers and like a good father He bends down to listen and help us. Even when we can’t see it God is often at work behind the scenes. Prayer is like an umbilical cord connecting us to heaven.
Find a good Christian Church
Most churches have a website to reflect what they are about. Many have a livestream of the Sunday services so you can get a feel for what to expect to see when you visit. You can ask about courses and study guides to help you get to know the bible. Some churches will offer an “Alpha Course “or an “I said Yes” course. This is a good place to ask questions and discuss issues in an informal setting with people who can support you on your journey to faith. The next stage would be to get baptised. This is an opportunity to publicly declare your decision to follow Jesus. It’s an outward sign of an inward reality. Your old life has been exchanged for a brand new one and you will never be the same!
